Tips When it Comes to Moving

It can be overwhelming to move. Where do you even start? Aside from finding your new home, there are the small things here and there that may stress you out. I have just a few little helpful tips I have learned from the many moves I have made in my life! Hopefully they can help you.

Relocation Assistance:

If you are relocating due to a job change or location change, be sure to ask your current or new company if they offer help and assistance in paying for some or all of your relocation costs.
When it comes to Military moves, know your options! The military offers to move you 100%, you can do a partial DITY (do it yourself) or a full DITY. Each option is right for someone. Working with packers and movers:

When working with packers and movers, sometimes you cannot pack a box on your own without the packers needing to undo it and repack it per their guidelines. Sometimes while looking through the house you can get overwhelmed thinking about what to keep out and what to send with the movers. A few tips I've learned over the years include using tape markers, trash bins, and stacking to pack.

1.Select one color tape, painters tape is easier for non damaging removal. Pick a few cabinets or closets you can easily access and keep organized to put items you don't want packed in. Let the packers know not to open those doors and you will be able to keep them from accidentally grabbing things you don't want them to take.

2. Trash bings work just as well. If you have items such as cleaning supplies, liquids, paint, etc., several moving companies will not allow those items to be transported on their truck. Instead of getting rid of them place those items in a trash bin. This will help keep from a spill leaving all over your other items and likely will be one of the first items you hunt for when you get to your new destination.

3. Stacking to pack is helpful for those who want to keep things organized in a specific way. When it comes to letting others pack our items, sometimes we can't be everywhere all at once and we want to feel like we have a little bit of control. Without being able to pack things yourself in the actual boxes, taking items and dedicating them into a specific space may be helpful. If items need to be inventoried before, you may be able to organize things after they are inventoried.

Boxes:

If you are packing yourself and want to save a few dollars here and there, find packing materials for free!
Most local yardage pages or the Facebook Marketplace have at least a few people who still have boxes lying around. If you need sturdier options, check out local grocery stores and liquor stores. Many of these stores will have great boxes that come from their meat department or larger, heavier items. Ask an employee or manager if they have any, most of the time they will even save them for you and you can grab them later! There is also the new age idea of asking anyone you know for an Amazon box or two. Chances are if you don't have some around the house, your friends or neighbors will. The same may be true for newspaper to stuff in with your breakables. Coffee shops may have old papers hanging around as well. It never hurts to ask!
